TRAFFIC IMPACT ASSESSMENTS

Over the last 25 years, TRAFFIX has undertaken studies for literally thousands of commercial, retail, educational, institutional, residential, tourist, entertainment, industrial and mining developments. That is, virtually all uses which generate traffic activity. These have included many complex, mixed use developments, requiring careful assessment and negotiation with consent authorities, including public consultation.

While the highest standard of technical assessment is always maintained, we are very mindful of the political environment within which development applications must be considered, and we structure reports to respond to all relevant issues. This includes the preparation of reports written in plain English as far as is practicable, for the assistance of all concerned in the planning process.

STRATEGIC TRANSPORT and PLANNING

Providing a realistic plan for meeting people’s mobility needs requires a broad view of the nature of trip making activities. At TRAFFIX, transport planners and modellers have technical expertise to bring the various components of the transport network together and carefully model the transport supply and demand at any scale. We develop sustainable and efficient solutions to address existing and future traffic issues.

Our team of professionals have extensive experience in transport demand estimation and applying macro level transport modelling including trip generation, distribution, mode choice and trip assignment, as well as integrating models. We evaluate the impacts of implementing different transport strategies, effectively report them and reinforce our suggestions with meaningful outputs from validated models. TRAFFIX has skills with TransCAD, VISUM and EMME as well as AIMSUN and VISSIM.

CONSTRUCTION TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT PLANS

TRAFFIX provides ‘back-end’ or ‘post-DA lodgement’ traffic planning services relating to Traffic Management Plans and Construction Traffic Management Plans. Our engineers possess all the required certificates to prepare and authorise TMP’s and CTMP’s, as well as the skills to negotiate an agreed outcome with Council and RMS officers. LAND USE AND TRANSPORT PLANNING

At TRAFFIX we understands the importance of traffic planning in its broader planning context. The interaction between land use and transport planning is a critical nexus and while other traffic engineering firms may look at traffic engineering as a discrete discipline, at TRAFFIX we see it as only one component of the planning process. We therefore pay careful attention to planning policy in order to formulate a strategy for each project. We will also help you to understand any risks before you take them.

FEASIBILITY ASSESSMENTS AND STRATEGIC ADVICE

TRAFFIX can provide you with ‘high level’ advice so you can assess the constraints and opportunities associated with any development site or proposal, however large and complex. This would normally include strategic advice as to how to proceed and the risks associated with available options. We can also prepare a detailed feasibility if that is what you require.

MICROSIMULATION OF TRAFFIC

Our office has extensive expertise in micro and meso simulation traffic modelling on projects ranging from a single intersection or roundabout to a large network. After defining the study area, collecting data, shaping the network and verifying it, we use calibrating and validating techniques to increase the accuracy of models and provide reliable outputs. These outputs are used to evaluate traffic and environmental impacts, measure the network performance, and permit an assessment of different solutions. The software permits a visual presentation of results. We are competent in the use of traffic modelling software including Aimsun, Vissim, Synchro, Vistro and SIDRA.

TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT

TRAFFIX has undertaken every type of traffic management study. These include on-street management (such as for large events) as well as the management of traffic within large private developments, such as industrial parks. Parking studies are an integral part of much of our work and these have been undertaken for private clients as well as for local and State Government institutions.

CERTIFICATIONS

TRAFFIX can provide you with a detailed ‘Design Statement’ for certification of your development, as well as an ‘As Built’ Statements prior to occupation. Naturally, we would prefer to certify projects that we have been directly involved with, to avoid the mistakes of others and the costs of correcting sub-standard designs.

As a general rule, we work closely with architects to ensure that all issues are resolved prior to submission.

ROAD SAFETY AUDITS

TRAFFIX has an extensive background in road safety and has undertaken numerous road safety audits on behalf of Council’s and the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS). This is an area of expertise that is under increasing demand and improvement and road safety generally underpins all our work in relation to the application of all relevant Australian standards and national guidelines.

EXPERT WITNESS SERVICES

TRAFFIX has represented private clients as well as numerous local governments in proceedings in the Land & Environment Court over the last 25 years. This has included all land use categories. All client’s associated with TRAFFIX benefit from this breadth and depth of experience, which few companies can match.

ROAD DESIGN

TRAFFIX has extensive experience in the preparation of concept designs for road infrastructure improvements, from LATM schemes to large intersections. TRAFFIX works closely with external civil engineers and specialist consultants to provide detailed road and intersection designs and specifications.

HIGH PEDESTRIAN ACTIVITY AREA STUDIES

TRAFFIX has been commissioned and undertaken several traffic studies that involves High Pedestrian Activities. TRAFFIX has developed a series of action plans across Local Area Traffic Management (LATM) Zones to provide extensive data analysis and road safety research to support applications for road safety grants and programs such as the 40km/h high pedestrian activity area.
